Information only — not professional advice
PlainFlights presents publicly available flight performance data in a more accessible form. Everything on this site is provided for general informational and research purposes only. It is not travel, legal, or financial advice, and it does not create any professional or advisory relationship. On-time performance reflects historical averages and is not a forecast for any individual flight; for booking, refund, or compensation decisions, consult the airline and the applicable rules.
Not the official BTS record
PlainFlights is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the U.S. Department of Transportation or its Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Our figures are derived from the BTS On-Time Performance dataset, which lags real time by several months. For the authoritative record, consult the official BTS On-Time Performance tables directly.
Averages describe the past, not your flight
Our on-time rates, average-delay figures, and cancellation rates are computed measures of historical performance, defined in our methodology. "Average delay" is the average among delayed flights, not across all flights. These figures describe how an airline, airport, or route has performed over the coverage window — they do not predict whether your specific flight will be on time, which depends on weather, staffing, and day-of conditions. Use them as one input among many.
Coverage and currency
PlainFlights covers domestic flights reported to the BTS within the window stated on our about page. The smallest carriers, some regional operations, and international segments may be outside this dataset, so coverage is not exhaustive. Always confirm coverage and dates before relying on a figure.
